How to present your CV?
We can not stress enough how important it is that your CV is very presentable.
It also needs to make you stand out but to get the message over as quickly
as possible.
I have heard of people scenting their CVs slightly as to stand out.
Bear in mind that this can work against you - if you smoke it is likely
that your CV will end up smelling of cigarettes. That doesn't give the
right image.
Could I type my CV?
You need it word processed and printed on a good sharp clean printer.
If your inkject prints out fuzzy cos its full of cat fluff then clean
it!
Should I photocopy my Cv?
NO! Never photocopy it - let other people photocopy their CVs if they
must but a photocopy can really let the side down if its even slightly
wonky!
What paper should I use? Should I use a folder for my CV?
I've had CVs done in smart folders before. They can make your CV stand
out - depends on the quality of the folder. Bear in mind you could be
giving out a lot of copies which could get expensive.
Use good quality sharp white paper.
What about layout style?
Some styles are more timeless than others. Coloured borders might look
nice but they're not really smart. Clean lines, presentation of content
using spacing, bullet points and bold headers should look good.
Font size?
I like to use a slightly bigger font than most people, but 10-12 point
font would be fine. Experiment in your wordprocessing software to get
the spacing right.
Maybe use 10-11 for body or CV and then a bigger font for the headings.
Use one font only. Something smart but not too rounded like Comic Sans
(One of my personal favs for notices but not CV). Arial is nice.
Don't use underlinings when you can use bold!
